PIM and master catalog

Change it once. Every store gets it.

One catalog is the dream of every chain and the nightmare of most. In Franpos, a master catalog lives in one place, your stores copy from it and stay linked to it, and the details you choose keep flowing out automatically. Price books and channel pricing then decide what each store and each channel charges.

One source of truth, shared with every store

Choose where your catalog comes from, and what a store takes when it copies an item.

Master catalog

Your own locations or the Franpos Master catalog

Under Settings, Product, Master catalog, pick the primary source of your shared catalog.

  • Use the Franpos Master catalog, or make one of your own locations the Corporate catalog and show it as the shared catalog
  • When an item is copied, choose whether it takes the product price or the vendor MSRP, and the product cost or the vendor cost
  • Limit stores to copying items from vendors they already have
  • A franchise location sees a message instead, because the setting belongs to the parent company
Shared catalog tab

Stores browse. Stores copy.

Where a store has a shared catalog, its Products page gains a Shared catalog tab.

  • Search the shared catalog and filter by products or services
  • Each row says Not copied, Linked, or Disconnected
  • Select many items and copy them in batches, with a result for every item and Retry for any that failed
  • A Disconnected item can be reset to reconnect it to the shared catalog
Always up to date

Linked items follow the master

A group of cards titled Automatic updates holds one switch per detail.

  • Update price, cost, vendor, brand, name, category, tax category, stock settings and online-store fields automatically
  • Turn on only the details you want to flow through; a switch changes every linked item
  • Auto-connect items from child locations links matching items in your stores
  • Hide Save button for products copied from the shared catalog keeps linked items read-only

A location that only holds the truth

Set a location's business category to PIM (product master) and head office gets a place that never rings up a sale.

PIM location

Head office, with a lean menu

A PIM location holds the corporate catalog and shows only what a catalog owner needs.

  • The menu is Catalog health, Catalog (Items, Categories, Brands, Vendors), Pricing (Price books, Channel pricing, Territories), Reports and Settings
  • A store's item linked to the PIM opens read-only, with the banner Managed by the corporate catalog
  • Override product price and cost sends a PIM price or cost change to every linked item
  • Catalog health shows pricing warnings, stores behind on prices and items without a price
Pricing on top

One catalog. Different prices where they matter.

Price books and channel pricing sit on top of the master.

  • A price book keeps one vendor's price list and sends changes to the territories you choose
  • Channel pricing works out the Online store and DoorDash price from the in-store price or the vendor cost
  • Google product sync publishes your items to Google Shopping once a day

Master catalog and PIM, answered

What is a master catalog?
A shared catalog that your stores copy items from and stay linked to. In Franpos it comes from the Franpos Master catalog or from one of your own locations that you choose as the Corporate catalog.
What is a PIM location?
A location whose business category is PIM (product master). It holds your master catalog, never rings up a sale, and has a shorter menu with a Catalog health landing page.
Can a store still edit an item copied from the master?
It depends on your switches. Items linked to a PIM open read-only, and a setting can remove the Save button on products copied from the shared catalog. Automatic update switches push changes from the shared catalog onto linked items.
Can I share one catalog across franchise locations?
Yes. The master catalog setting belongs to the parent company, and the stores copy from the shared catalog it sets up.
Does it connect to Google Shopping?
Yes. Google product sync sends your products to Google Merchant Center once a day, and only changed products go out.
What does it cost?
Every business is different, so we quote per location. Book a demo and we will walk you through it.
